HORSESHOE BEND (Page, Arizona)

While travelling from Utah to Arizona today, I visited the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in southern Utah. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is home to about 2,000 dogs, cats, and other animals, who come from shelters and rescue groups around the country for special care they can only receive at Best Friends. Most of the animals there have special physical or behavioral needs, and Best Friends' staff of veterinarians, trainers and caregivers offer them all the help they require. Most of them are ready to go to good new homes after just a few weeks of special care. A few, who are too old or too sick, or who have suffered extra trauma, find a home and haven at the sanctuary, and are given loving care for the rest of their lives. If you are ever in this area, stop by and visit this beautiful sanctuary. Or, go to their website at: http://www.bestfriends.org/

I crossed the Glen Canyon bridge
before arriving at Page, Arizona
(My brother would love crossing this bridge!)

HORSESHOE BEND

To see this thing called "Horseshoe Bend"
you first have to walk 100 miles through the desert.
You start out by going up, up, up this hill (in the sand!)
Up more (still in the sand)!
After you reach the top of the hill,
you see endless desert that you must cross Sand, sand, and more sand!
(It is not easy to walk in!)
More walking across the desert
(still no end in sight!)
You finally see this big hole in the
ground (to the left). That is
the final destination
You get to the big hole in the
ground (finally!), and you see this
down below. Sure, it's pretty -
but, it's nothing more than a big
rock in the water. I didn't see the big deal!
(To get a perspective of how huge it is,
look at the little boat in the water on the left!)
After seeing the big rock, I had to go back
across the desert. My little, dirty car never
looked so good!
